  • Delivered water of eight (8) 5-gallon containers per month, at $8.25 per container, equals $66
  • Rental of water cooler, $14 per month, hence, delivered water = $80, or $960 per year
  • Without the cooler, total delivered water costs per year is $792
  • Bottled water from supermarket, 40 gallons per month, at $1 per gallon or 40 per month
  • Don't forget you have to lug it home from the store, as well as get rid of the bottles after use

Your Costs When Buying a Whole-House "Safe Water System" - total cost over 5 year period

The comparisons may help you make a decision about which system to purchase. Average requirements for maintenance and replacements are estimated over a 5-year period, and then pro-rated per year.

We have also looked at the costs of bottled water from the supermarket and from a delivery company. Please note they do not provide you with protected, clean water for bathing, laundry, and household chores. In that sense, our systems come out way ahead in terms of cost per gallon, convenience, peace of mind and your independence.

Price for each system includes shipping within the Continental U.S., but that for replacement parts shipping costs are additional. Prices are subject to change, although we hold the line on price increases in every instance possible.

1] Deluxe System: Original Investment $1,843 including shipping

A] Sediment - No filter changes required. 2 sediment screens with different mesh sizes are included so that you can figure out which size works better with your water conditions. The transparent bowl lets you monitor and drain accumulated sludge at the bottom with the ball valve. From time to time the mesh may have to be washed with detergent and water, just like you would wash a mesh coffee filter.

B] Carbon - The loose granular carbon filter unit has a timer for backwash, so it needs electricity nearby. You pre-program it to backwash, typically once a week, say, at 3 a.m. The backwashing takes less than half an hour. If you have a power outage, you will need to reset the timer. The carbon media can be washed with Clorox several times.

C] UV - The U.V. bulb and quartz sleeve need to be replaced about every 18 months. You would need 2 changes in the five-year period, at $170 each time, or $340 in 5 years, shipping is included. You can save some money by washing the quartz sleeve instead of buying. The sleeve should be replaced every 3 years, at a cost of $60 plus $20 shipping.

Your total cost for the Deluxe System is $1,843 initial plus $340 for uv units for a total of $2,183 over 5 years. Your annualized cost is $436.

2] Big Blue 20" System: Original Investment $1,149 including shipping

A] Sediment and carbon - This system requires on average yearly filter changes for the sediment filter $60, and the carbon-block filter, $78 and a combined shipping around $15. The total of $153, or $612 (four changes starting with the end of the first year of use) over the five-year period.

B] UV - The U.V. bulb and quartz sleeve need to be replaced about every 18 months. You would need 2 changes in the five-year period, at $170 each time, or $340 in 5 years, shipping is included. You can save some money by washing the quartz sleeve instead of buying. The sleeve should be replaced every 3 years, at a cost of $60 plus $20 shipping.

Your total cost for the Big Blue 20" System: $1,149 initial, $612 for 4 filter changes and $340 for 2 uv replacements for a total of $2,101 over 5 years. Your annualized cost is $420.

3] Slimline 20" System: Original Investment: $849 including shipping

A] Sediment and carbon - This system requires filter changes every 6 months on average, for sediment filter $15, carbon block filter $57 and shipping is around $15 for the pair. This is $87 per replacement and there are 9 replacements in a 5 year period, adding to $783.

B] UV - The U.V. bulb and quartz sleeve need to be replaced about every 18 months. You would need 2 changes in the five-year period, at $160 each time, or $320 in 5 years, shipping is included. You can save some money by washing the quartz sleeve instead of buying. The sleeve should be replaced every 3 years, at a cost of $60 plus $20 shipping.

Your total cost for the "Slimline 20" System: $849 initial, $783 for 9 filter changes and $320 for 2 uv replacements for a total of $1,952. Your annualized cost is $390.
